OK, we're off to a good start, but wait, no we're not; where's the girls' ensemble? We to get the full treatment of 'I'll Go Home with Bonnie Jean, ' complete with the often cut dance music, but where are the girls? 'Jeannie's Packin' Up' is missing entirely: no vocal and no dance! Seriously? I didn't see the production, so if this sequence was cut from the show, shame on everyone! But, if it was just left off the CD, someone needs a thorough scourging. Not only is 'Jeannie's Packin' Up' delightful in itself (and it has a sparkling dance sequence to accompany it), it is also the perfect counterpoint to the men's 'Bonnie Jean' number. Cutting the dance music to save some space on the CD is bad enough, but, come on, folks, give us the song. From that omission forward, the rest of the disc is OK, but it ain't what it coulda been. Multiple listenings didn't help, either, because I knew where the song belonged, and it just wasn't there. What a disappointment. I suppose comparisons with the McGlinn recording from the early '90's are inevitable.
