"The Red Turtle" begins as a "Robinson Crusoe"-style man vs. nature-style narrative, a mode that viewers should be comfortable and/or familiar with. You know this story: a man arrives on an island and must, through sheer force of conviction and ingenuity, rescue himself by creating shelter, foraging for food, and building a raft to escape. The main difference between this type of story and the one that "The Red Turtle" eventually becomes is that there's always something that's entreating or trying to catch the viewer's eye, whether it's blessedly un-anthropomorophosized crabs, or a forest of gently swaying bamboo shoots. There is subsequently a subtle tension at play at the beginning of the film: the island's personality asserts itself even as we are encouraged to get caught up in our hero's captivating routine of building a raft, trying (and repeatedly failing) to escape, daydreaming while gazing at the moon, and then inevitably repeating this makeshift procedure. That tension comes to a head once the title character appears.

Still, they spend 18 hours together in a car. As luck would have it, they keep bumping into each other time and again, and close friendship blossoms between these two. As they both struggle to find one true love, they realize that they are looking at all the wrong places. How long can they be friends without sex coming their way? This movie goes by pretty quickly. Before you realize, you are more than an hour or so into it. This is a sign of a very good movie. The plot is amusing, and authentic performances from our two leads make it even more intriguing. This is one of those classics almost everyone has watched. If this movie somehow manages to go under your radar, this is your time. If you are looking for a good romantic movie with some comedy, When Harry Met Sally should be right up your alley. 2. The Notebook Make sure that you have tissue papers around. This is a sob-fest! The plot revolves around Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who meet each other at a carnival, and fall in love deeply.

The filmmakers pulled out every trick in the book, but that does not work for horror movie buffs like myself. Loud banging noises, the masks, the killers staring off into space, killers suddenly disappearing (one scene saw a girl touch a guy's shoulder and teleport down the street before he could turn around), heroine in the woods, heroine with a limp, old music on a record player, and on we go. The ending made no sense whatsoever. It took a horror movie staple reserved for the killer and assigned it to the victim. Basically, if you've seen a decent amount of horror movies, you've seen this one. I don't think anyone involved even tried to be original. If you're one that enters into a movie determined to be scared at cheap jump scares and nothing will deter you from said goal, you'll eat this up.
